History of North America

Why did colonists want to move into the Ohio River Valley?

1. Fertile Land:

- The most significant reason was the availability of fertile farmland.

2. New Economic Opportunities:

- Ohio's lands promised to boost agriculture, fur trading, and the timber industry.

3. Cheap Land:

- Speculators bought enormous areas, hoping to resell those lands to farmers.

4. Population Increase:

- As colonies' populations thrived, they needed lands with space for new settlements.

5. Political Independence:

- To some extent, frontiersmen sought lands free from Eastern establishments.
