What was the main goal of Republican Party during Civil War?

There was no Republican Party during the Civil War. The Republican Party was formed in 1854 and opposed the expansion of slavery. The Civil War was fought between 1861 and 1865 between the United States and the Confederate States of America, which had seceded from the Union in 1860-1861. The main goals of the Union during the Civil War were to preserve the Union and to end slavery.
