How did the united states gain possession of state Missouri?

Louisiana Purchase (1803)

The United States acquired the land that would become the state of Missouri as part of the Louisiana Purchase from France in 1803. This massive 828,000 square miles of land was purchased for $15 million, approximately four cents per acre. The Louisiana Purchase more than doubled the size of the United States and included present-day Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, parts of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, and Minnesota.
