History of North America

What was the America First Committee?

The America First Committee was a political pressure group that opposed United States involvement in World War II. The organization was founded in September 1940 by Col. Charles Lindbergh, prominent aviator, and other isolationists. The America First Committee argued that the United States should focus on its domestic problems rather than intervene in foreign conflicts, and that the war in Europe was not a threat to American security. The group also claimed that the United States should not provide military aid to Great Britain or other Allied powers. The America First Committee gained widespread support in the United States before the attack on Pearl Harbor, but its influence declined rapidly after the United States entered the war in December 1941.
