History of North America

Where did the North-West Mounted Police settle in Canada?

The North-West Mounted Police (NWMP), later known as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), was initially established in 1873 and settled in Fort Macleod, located in the present-day province of Alberta, Canada. Fort Macleod was chosen as the headquarters of the NWMP due to its strategic position in the North-West Territories, which included the vast region of present-day Alberta and Saskatchewan. The fort served as the operational base for the police force, where they could effectively maintain law and order, and address the ongoing challenges of settling the region.
