History of North America

What best describes Cold War?

A prolonged diplomatic hostility between political blocs.

The United States and the Soviet Union emerged from World War II as the global superpowers, setting the stage for an intense political, economic, and military rivalry dubbed the Cold War. Although direct fighting never occurred between these countries, ideological, military, and covert conflicts occurred as both sides asserted their spheres of influence around the world and engaged in geopolitical competition. These tensions eventually led to regional confrontations, proxy wars, economic blockades, and propaganda campaigns.
