History of North America

What is a disadvantage for the north at start of civil war?

The Union's greatest disadvantage at the beginning of the Civil War was the lack of a centralized army. The North had a limited number of regular soldiers, and they were scattered throughout the country. The Confederacy, on the other hand, had a much larger army and a more centralized command structure. This gave the Confederates a distinct advantage in the early stages of the war.
