The bloodiest battle of the American Civil War is the Battle of Gettysburg fought from July 1-3, 1863, in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania between Union and Confederate armies during the American Civil War. The battle resulted in more than 51,000 casualties. More than 7,000 men would die on the first day of fighting alone, the greatest one-day toll in American history to that point.
