Was there ever a nuclear meltdown in The US?

There have been several nuclear meltdowns in the United States, including:

- The SL-1 meltdown in Idaho in 1961, in which three workers were killed when a fuel rod failed and caused a steam explosion.

- The Three Mile Island accident in Pennsylvania in 1979, in which a partial meltdown occurred but was contained without major consequences.

- The Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine in 1986, which resulted in the release of large amounts of radioactive material into the atmosphere and had wide-ranging environmental and health effects.

- The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan in 2011, which was caused by an earthquake and tsunami and resulted in the release of large amounts of radioactive material into the environment.
