History of North America

What did the north and south believe about duration of war at beginning civil war?

At the beginning of the Civil War, both the North and the South believed the war would be short and decisive. The North believed that its superior industrial and manpower resources would quickly overwhelm the South. The South believed that its superior military leadership and the righteousness of its cause would lead to a quick victory.

As the war dragged on, however, both sides realized that the conflict would be long and bloody. The North came to appreciate the South's determination and military prowess, while the South came to realize that the North's resources and industrial capacity were too great to be overcome.

The war eventually lasted for four years and resulted in the deaths of over 600,000 people. It was one of the deadliest conflicts in American history.
