What is a Civil War general?

A Civil War general is a high-ranking military officer who led troops during the American Civil War (1861-1865). These generals were responsible for commanding armies, corps, and divisions, and making strategic decisions on the battlefield. Some of the most notable Civil War generals include Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, William T. Sherman, Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, and George B. McClellan.
