History of North America

What was the main reason for founding of Plymouth?

The main reason for the founding of Plymouth was religious freedom.

The Pilgrims, a group of English Puritans, sought to escape religious persecution in England and establish a new colony in America where they could practice their faith freely.

In 1620, a group of 102 Pilgrims led by William Bradford departed on the Mayflower, landing at Plymouth Harbor in present-day Massachusetts. They formed the Plymouth Colony, the second permanent English settlement in North America after Jamestown.
