The Liberal Party of Canada, led by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, won the 2009 Canadian federal election. The party won a minority of seats in the House of Commons, with 143 seats out of 308. The main opposition party, the New Democratic Party (NDP), led by Jack Layton, won 103 seats. The Conservative Party of Canada, led by Stephen Harper, won 143 seats.
