Why is World War 1 considered the first world war?

World War I was not the first world war. The term "world war" is generally used to refer to conflicts that involved multiple countries and had significant global impact. In that sense, there have been several world wars throughout history, including the Peloponnesian War, the Punic Wars, and the Mongol Conquests.

The term "World War I" was popularized after World War II to distinguish the earlier conflict from the more recent one. At the time of World War I, it was commonly referred to as the "Great War" or the "War to End All Wars."
