What was true about the Chinese exclusive act?

The Chinese Exclusion Act was a United States federal law signed into law by President Chester A. Arthur on May 6, 1882. It was the first significant law restricting immigration to the United States based on race or national origin. The act suspended Chinese immigration for ten years and prohibited Chinese laborers already in the United States from becoming naturalized citizens. It was later upheld by the US Supreme Court.
