The Black Death is estimated to have killed 75–200 million people in Eurasia and peaked in Europe in the years 1347–51 while World War I (WWI or WW1), also known as the First World War, was a global war centred in Europe that began on 28 July 1914 and lasted until 11 November 1918. It involved all the great powers of the time, including Russia, the German Empire, Austria-Hungary, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, and the United States. Estimates of military and civilian casualties for World War I have ranged from about 17 million to upwards of 40 million and making world war 1 have higher casualties.
