What is the origin of word terrorism?

The word "terrorism" is derived from the French word "terrorisme," which in turn is derived from the Latin word "terror," meaning "fear" or "dread." The first recorded use of the term "terrorism" in English was in 1795, during the French Revolution, when it was used to refer to the policies and tactics employed by the radical Jacobins. The word gained widespread use in the 19th and 20th centuries to describe a wide range of political and religious violence aimed at instilling fear and intimidation.
