Can women have dreadlocks in the military?

Yes, women in the military are allowed to have dreadlocks. However, there are some regulations that must be followed. In the female, dreadlocks may not be less than 1/4 inch in diameter, and no wider than 1 inch in diameter, measured at the scalp with the hair in a dry, unstyled state. Dreadlocks may not be styled or decorated with beads, combs, feathers, clips or other adornments. They must be neat, clean, and free of loose hair or debris. Dreadlocks may not extend below the female’s shoulder blades when the neck is extended horizontally. If the hair is shorter than the shoulder blades, the dreadlocks may not extend past the end of the hair. Dreadlocks may be styled with a bun or ponytail if the hair is properly restrained and secured.
