How did galba become emperor?

Galba was proclaimed emperor by the governor of Hispania Tarraconensis, Gaius Julius Vindex, in April 68 in revolt against the incumbent emperor Nero.[2] Initially only recognized in Hispania and Gallia Aquitania, Galba's rise to power was given legitimacy when Lucius Clodius Macer, governor of Africa, also sided with him. Nero committed suicide in June, and on 9 June, the Roman Senate elevated Galba to the throne.
