History of Africa

Why is Olaudah Equiano or Gustavus Vassa the African sometimes referred to as first African?

Olaudah Equiano, also known as Gustavus Vassa the African, is not referred to as "the first African." He was a prominent figure in the transatlantic slave trade abolition movement during the late 18th century, but there is no historical foundation for labeling him as "the first African." People have existed in Africa since the earliest human origins, and there have been countless individuals known by their unique identities throughout history.
