Historical story

Why did Benjamin Franklin fly a kite in storm?

To demonstrate that lighting is a type of electricity.

On June 15, 1752, Benjamin Franklin flew a kite in a storm with a metal key at the end of the string. He demonstrated that lightning is a type of electricity by showing that the charges created by the lightning could conduct electricity. When the kite string became wet from the rain, it became a conductor of electricity, and the electricity passed through the key and charged Franklin.
