Women's roles in society generally expanded during World War II, as men went off to fight in the war and women took on many jobs that had been previously held by men. However, there were also many similarities in women's roles before and during the war. For example, women were still primarily responsible for childcare and domestic duties, and they were still underrepresented in positions of power and influence. Additionally, women of color continued to face significant discrimination and limited opportunities, both before and during the war.
