Historical story

Why did the Jews choose word Holocaust?

The term "Holocaust" was not chosen by the Jews. The word "Holocaust" is derived from the Greek words "holos" (whole) and "kaustos" (burned), and was originally used to describe the sacrifice of animals or objects by burning. In the context of the Nazi genocide of the Jews during World War II, the term was first used in English by the Allies in reference to the mass killings, but it was not until the 1960s that it became the dominant term used to describe the genocide of the Jews.
