Historical story

Why were there no French queens?

This assumption is not correct. There have been numerous French queens throughout history, dating back to the early Middle Ages. The wives of the kings of France were commonly referred to as queens. Some notable French queens include:

Anne of Kiev (1034-1075): Wife of Henry I of France.

Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122-1204): Wife of Louis VII of France and later Henry II of England.

Isabella of Bavaria (1370-1435): Wife of Charles VI of France.

Catherine de Medici (1519-1589): Wife of Henry II of France.

Marie Antoinette (1755-1793): Wife of Louis XVI of France.
