Historical story

Why was Champlain chosen for the trip?

Champlain was chosen for the trip because of his vast knowledge of the St. Lawrence River and his fluency in the Montagnais language. He had already made two voyages to the region, one in 1603 and one in 1608, and had established good relations with the native peoples. He was also a skilled mapmaker and cartographer, which would be essential for recording the discoveries made during the trip.
