* 1938: Franklin begins her studies at Newnham College, Cambridge, where she earns a degree in chemistry.
* 1942: Franklin joins the British Coal Utilisation Research Association, where she begins working on X-ray crystallography.
* 1951: Franklin is awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the University of California, Berkeley.
* 1953: Franklin takes the X-ray diffraction photographs of DNA that will eventually lead to the discovery of its double helix structure.
* 1958: Franklin dies of ovarian cancer at the age of 37.
* 2003: Franklin's work is finally recognized with the publication of her X-ray diffraction photographs of DNA in the journal Nature.
* 2015: Franklin is inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame.
