Historical story

Why were Marquette and Jolliet chosen to go on the journey explore Great River?

Marquette and Jolliet were chosen to go on the expedition because they had both demonstrated courage and resourcefulness in previous expeditions. Marquette was a missionary who had spent several years living among Native Americans, and he was proficient in several Native American languages. He was also a dedicated explorer who had previously journeyed to the shores of Lake Superior. Jolliet was a fur trader and explorer who had experience in navigating the waterways of the Great Lakes region. He was also an experienced cartographer, and he had a natural curiosity about the world.

Additionally, Marquette and Jolliet were chosen because they were both men of faith. They believed that God was guiding their journey, and they were determined to bring Christianity to the Native Americans they would meet. This religious motivation helped them overcome many challenges during their expedition, and it also helped them to build relationships with the Native American tribes they encountered.
