W. E. B. Du Bois became a leader of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) when he got older. The NAACP is an American civil rights organization that was founded in 1909. Du Bois was one of the founding members of the organization and he served as its editor of its magazine, _Crisis_, for many years. He also wrote several books and articles about the black experience in America. Du Bois is considered to be one of the most important figures in the history of the civil rights movement.
