Historical story

Did quarters nickels and dimes contain silver in 1964?

No, quarters, nickels, and dimes did not contain silver in 1964. Due to the rising costs of silver, the US Mint began producing all coins except the dime and half dollar in a copper-nickel clad composition in 1964. The dime was changed to a copper-nickel clad composition in 1965, while the half dollar remained 90% silver until 1970 when it too, was changed to a copper-nickel clad composition.
