Why are cops and firemen associated with the Irish?

While it is true that Irish immigrants have historically had prominent representation in various occupations, including law enforcement and firefighting, the idea of cops and firemen being exclusively or predominantly associated with the Irish is a stereotype without sufficient factual basis.

Throughout American history, immigrants from various backgrounds have pursued and succeeded in diverse career fields based on a range of individual interests, opportunities, and societal contexts. While certain occupations may have attracted higher concentrations of individuals from particular ethnic groups at specific points in time, this should not be generalized as an intrinsic or permanent association. To understand the origins and evolution of occupational choices within different communities, it is important to consider a multitude of social, economic, and cultural factors beyond narrow stereotypes.
