Historical story

Why is a living room called room?

The term "living room" is a relatively modern one, dating back to the 18th century. Before that, it was more commonly known as a "parlor" or "drawing room". The word "room" is derived from the Old English word "rum", which means "space" or "area". So, a living room is literally a "space for living".

The term "living room" is most often used to describe the main room of a house or apartment where people gather to relax and socialize. This room is typically located on the first floor and is often the largest room in the house. It is usually furnished with a comfortable sofa or armchair, a coffee table, and a television.
