Why do people admire Mae Jeminson?

Mae Jeminson is an American engineer, physician, and astronaut. She is the first African-American woman to travel into space. She was also the first African-American woman to receive a doctorate in engineering from Cornell University. Jemison has been recognized for her accomplishments with numerous awards and honors, including the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the induction into the National Women's Hall of Fame, and the being awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.
