Historical story

What did miwok women wear?

Miwok women traditionally wore a one-piece dress called an "apron dress" or "tunic dress." This dress was typically made from buckskin or twined cordage and extended from the shoulders to below the knees. It had no sleeves and was often decorated with beads, shells, or other adornments. Miwok women also wore moccasins made of deer hide or other soft material. These moccasins were often decorated with beads or other designs. In addition, Miwok women wore a variety of accessories such as necklaces, bracelets, and earrings made from beads, shells, or other natural materials.
