Historical story

Why did Lady Jane Grey become queen for only nine days?

Lady Jane Grey became queen for only nine days because she was deposed in favor of Mary Tudor, who had a stronger claim to the throne. Edward VI, Lady Jane's cousin, had named her as his successor in his will, but this was opposed by many nobles and members of the Privy Council, who believed that Mary, as the eldest daughter of Henry VIII, had a stronger hereditary claim. After nine days on the throne, Lady Jane was imprisoned and later executed by Mary.
