Palace of Versailles:view of the gardens
The palace of Versailles, as is known, it was wanted and built by Louis XIV so that it was a visible and tangible testimony of one's power absolute.
Usually the guests, with some rare exceptions (https://www.pilloledistoria.it/2230/storia-moderna/dalle-memorie-di-saint-simon-una-testimonianza-poco-lusinghiera-su-versailles) remained favorably struck, if not definitely amazed, by the magnificence of the royal palace.
However, this did not always happen, as the anecdote shows which I tell below.
It was the year 1715 when the Sun King, received the ambassador by Persia, decided to have the illustrious guest take a tour of the beautiful park aboard his carriage, stopping from time to time to draw his attention to those points that he considered particularly characteristic and noteworthy.
Arrested in front of the orange grove , pride of the sovereign, to admire him better, the stranger exclaimed:
“What strange tastes this king has! He had an immense palace built ruining the prospect of such a beautiful orange grove! " .
