Leonardo's Mona Lisa
Although many are convinced that Leonardo's Mona Lisa has been stolen from Italy, in reality it is legitimately from France.
The confusion arises from the fact that Napoleon's soldiers actually plundered our country (and beyond) of many works of art, only partially returned after the Congress of Vienna (1815).
But for the Mona Lisa this is not the case ( see also :https://www.pilloledistoria.it/2575/notizie/test-dna-monna-lisa).
In fact, it was Leonardo himself who brought with him the portrait of Mona Lisa in the country beyond the Alps, where King Ferdinand I bought it.
The figure for it was staggering:well 4000 gold crowns, roughly the equivalent of two years' salary for its author.
However, the Napoleonic soldiers stole Leonardo's manuscripts known as Codes of the Institute of France, never returned ( Photos from :ilgiornale.it).
