The heated confrontation between Danton and Robespierre
The video which I report in this post (from youtube.com) is a scene from the famous film by the Polish director Andrzej Wajda Danton (1983), whose role is entrusted to a masterful interpretation by Gérard Depardieu.
At the home of Georges-Jacques Danton a dinner is held which is in reality only the pretext for a harsh political but also human confrontation between the landlord, who hopes for a pacification of France for the good of all, and Maximilien Robespierre, now perched on a position of extreme dictatorial and undemocratic Jacobinism.
The character contrast between the two men is evident in the scene:the protagonist's passion and verbal enthusiasm is contrasted by a cold, cynical and calculating Robespierre, who in a few weeks will lead the ex friend to the gallows.
In fact, the film tells the last days of life of the vehement revolutionary leader, guillotined on April 5, 1794 ( see https://www.pilloledistoria.it/4824/storia-moderna/-boia-mostrate-mia-testa-popolo-ne-vale-pena).
