Italy does not stop revealing treasures.
A few weeks ago, the discovery of about 60 skeletons aroused enormous interest among historians and archaeologists. buried a few meters away from the Uffizi Gallery , in Florence.
From what we have been able to understand so far, these are the remains of men and women of different ages hastily buried in a pit, probably because they were victims of a contagious epidemic, such as plague or cholera.
Some coins dated IV-V century A.D . found next to the bodies, have made it possible to trace the necropolis back to the early Middle Ages with certainty, characterized by an evident social and cultural decay of the city.
The discovery, as often happens, was made by chance during the works for the expansion of the Uffizi Museum.
There is great anticipation for the results of the DNA test , which will reveal with certainty the causes of death and, hopefully, will help to illuminate with a little light the darkness that has always affected this difficult period of the long and glorious Florentine history.
