The diamond called "Regent"
The Regent is an ancient and beautiful diamond that carries with it an incredible story of mourning and tragedy ( see also https://www.pilloledistoria.it/12667/medioevo/diamante-azzurro-gemma).
In practice, it is said to bring bad luck to whoever gets it.
The facts, moreover, seem to prove this black legend right.
The aforementioned diamond was found by chance in 1701 by a slave in India, precisely in a mine on the Kistna River.
To hide and keep the precious gem safe, the man cut a wound and kept it in bandages for a long time.
A few years later a sailor, learned of the secret, killed the slave and sold the stone to a merchant.
However, the evildoer did not enjoy the income obtained for long:won by remorse, he committed suicide.
We find the jewel in the hands of Duke Philip II of Orleans , regent of France during the minority of Louis XV (hence the name of the diamond), who bought it for an amazing amount that we can suppose.
The Orleans were the cadet branch of the French royal family, wiped out during the revolution.
It was in that period that the diamond was stolen, until Napoleon Bonaparte he did not find it and used it to adorn the hilt of the sword.
Soon after, the general was defeated in Waterloo and then exiled to Sant’Elena.
Today the Regent is in Paris, kept in a transparent case inside the Louvre Museum ( Photo from :commons.wikimedia.org).
