Roman matron
The matron, in Ancient Rome, she was the wife of the pater familias, or the head of the family, the undisputed number one of the clan, the one whose authority all had to obey and submit.
This does not mean that the wife did not enjoy a certain influence in the family, but she was still subordinate to the will of the man.
After all, this was the proper condition of all women, whether they were wives, daughters or sisters.
