Cleopatra before Octavian, Guercino, 1640
Certainly Cleopatra she must have been an extremely seductive woman if she could make men like Julius Caesar lose their heads and Marco Antonio, but with Octavian, apparently, she didn't have the same success.
In reality it is not even sure that this attempt at a carnal approach took place, but some historians believe it very likely.
Here, in short, are the facts.
In 30 BC, after defeating Antony's weak troops and following the latter's suicide, Octavian took possession of Alexandria and went to Cleopatra, now his prisoner.
Seen lost, it is likely that the former queen of Egypt played the last card at her disposal, trusting once again in her proven feminine skills, but whether this is true or not, she failed.
Power, for Octavian, came first.
And the proud Cleopatra was left with nothing but suicide.
