The British author, Kate Moss, who has been supporting women's voices for many years, is back with a new global campaign.
Entitled #WomanInHistory the campaign which was already launched ahead of Women's Day, will feature every woman who has been overlooked in the history books.
The author explained that she wants to give women's voices a chance to be heard and their stories a chance to be honored.
In my research for my novels, I constantly found how easily women's achievements disappear or are left out of the official history books, and this inspired me for the campaign, she said.
Readers can nominate any woman who inspires them using the hashtag #WomanInHistory on Instagram or Twitter. The names will be revealed on the Pan Macmillan website on International Women's Day, March 8.
The author said she was impressed by everyone's enthusiasm and the large number of entries.
"Within the first days of the campaign, we had thousands of nominations from all over the world, from Russia, Poland, Syria, Iran, Canada, France, Spain, Ireland, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey, United Kingdom, Germany. Women from the distant past, the recent, as well as those who are writing history today," he noted.
Kate Moss' campaign has also been supported by famous women including actress Kim Cattrall, former tennis player Martina Navratilova, actress and presenter Lorraine Kelly, theater critic Arifa Akbar, author Joanna Trollope as well as authors Richard Osman, Adam Kay and Anthony Horowitz.
The #WomanInHistory campaign is part of a wider movement that aims to bring women's names and stories to the fore, and I think it's a positive sign of how, in these rather bleak times, we want to celebrate courage, female solidarity, diversity and inclusion and to show gratitude to those who lived before us, the author emphasized.
