Roller coasters, as their name implies, originated in Russia. In winter, people started to have fun with their sleds on small ice elevations. The sled game caught the attention of many companies, until the company Les Montagnes Russes à Belleville built the first gravity roller coaster in Paris, 1812.
The first roller coasters in the United States began to be built in 1884, based on the previous models. In 1885, LaMarcus Adna Thompson patented the first roller coaster.
