Historical story

Command of the X military region

During the National Socialist regime, the rearmament of the country was one of the highest priorities of the government of Adolf Hitler. Breaking with the Versailles accords, German industry soon began mass-producing weapons. Tanks, ships, and planes rolled out of factories to equip the new German Wehrmacht.

The organization of the armed forces was thus reorganized and expanded. To control the new units, military regions were created throughout the country, as well as in Austria, also considered German national territory. This organization was effective between 1935 and 1945.

Region X had its capital in Hamburg and controlled the entire Atlantic coast of Germany. In order to provide the command center of the military region with a building according to its functions, an imposing headquarters was built in Hamburg. Following the typical architectural style of Nazi Germany, the building had an imposing portal of stone columns crowned by the eagles of the regime.

The building survived World War II. After the war conflict it was occupied by the British authorities to pass back to the German armed forces in 1956.
