Historical story

MAN tank factory in Nuremberg

The machinery manufacturing company Maschinenfabrik Ausburg Nürnberg (MAN) had a long and rich tradition in Nuremberg, as well as being the largest company in the city in the 1930s.

This company was one of the most important military objectives of the bombing campaigns conducted by the United States Air Force throughout World War II. The company was engaged in the manufacture of trucks and tank engines for the German Wehrmacht during the war.

In the workshops south of Nuremberg, MAN devoted itself to the manufacture of medium and heavy tanks. The most advanced models of German main battle tanks, the Panzer VI Tiger and the Panzer V Panther, were produced at these facilities. Previously, the Panzer I and Panzer II light tanks were manufactured here, as well as some models of the Panzer III medium tank.

The facilities were completely destroyed during the war. However, the factory administration building managed to survive the war. Today, the area has been rebuilt and is once again an industrial space where the MAN company manufactures engines.

In addition to the factory facilities, on Frankentr. 140 you can visit a memorial to those who died in the two world wars erected by the MAN company.
