Who usually succeeded the pharaoh?

The son of the pharaoh usually succeeded the pharaoh in ancient Egypt, as the succession was typically hereditary. The Egyptian throne passed from father to son, with male heirs taking precedence over females. If the pharaoh had no male heir, he might adopt a suitable successor or designate a high-ranking official as his successor. In some cases, a queen or princess could assume the throne if there were no male heirs, but this was less common.
