The last war fought against the British was the Falklands War, also known as the Malvinas War in Spanish. It was a brief armed conflict between Argentina and the United Kingdom over the Falkland Islands (Spanish: Islas Malvinas), a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean. The conflict began on 2 April 1982, when Argentine forces invaded and occupied the Falkland Islands, which were then under British administration. The British government responded by dispatching a naval task force to the South Atlantic to retake the islands. The war ended on 14 June 1982, when Argentine forces surrendered to British forces.
