Where was the turning point in World War I?

The turning point of World War I is generally considered to be the Battle of the Marne in September 1914. The battle was a decisive French victory against the German army, halting their advance toward Paris and marking the end of their Schlieffen Plan, which had aimed for a swift victory. The Germans were forced to retreat and dig in, leading to the stalemate of trench warfare that characterized much of the rest of the war.
