What was Molly Pitcher contribution to the revolutionary war?

Molly Pitcher is a legendary figure from the American Revolutionary War. According to legend, she was present at the Battle of Monmouth in 1778 and, seeing that her husband was collapsed from heatstroke, took his place at a cannon. She served as a gunner and showed great courage and skill in the battle, earning the nickname "Molly Pitcher".

It is believed that she took the name Pitcher because she was seen carrying water to the soldiers fighting on the battlefield. Historians have found evidence of a woman named Mary Ludwig Hays, who was married to a soldier in the Continental Army and lived near the site of the Battle of Monmouth.
