Why was the Bayeux taperstry made?

The Bayeux Tapestry was commissioned by Bishop Odo of Bayeux, the half-brother of William the Conqueror, to commemorate the Norman conquest of England in 1066. It is believed that the tapestry was created in England, possibly at the Canterbury scriptorium, and was completed around 1077. The tapestry is an embroidered cloth that tells the story of the conquest, from the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings to the aftermath of the battle. It is a valuable historical document, as it provides a detailed visual account of the events of 1066.
